Spectre

“You're a kite dancing in a hurricane, Mr Bond.”

Filmology Rating: 2.5 out of 4

Bond is back and bigger and better than ever..... Is what I really hoped that I would be able to say when I woke up today and knew I was going to see this movie. After the film was done, I left with the feeling of getting cheated. Skyfall was such an incredible movie, arguably up there with the best Bond films, but this film didn't come close to reaching that level. The movie opened up with a beautifully shot first scene that lead into a really fun action sequence. I wish that it continued that same type of momentum throughout the entire film but it failed to do so. Yes there are a decent amount of action scenes throughout the movie but a lot of them seemed pointless and dull. The villain in this movie is played by the extremely talented Christoph Waltz. However, I almost felt sorry for him because for the high caliber actor he is, this was a low powered role. This role is not supposed to be that way! The villain he is portraying is supposed to be anything but that. So blame it on the dialogue or the script but whatever it was, it made the character feel off. Without giving anything away, this movie is supposed to be the most intimate and personal for Bond but it fails to reach that emotional level with the audience. At times I felt that this movie could actually go somewhere and be good but it never reached that level for me. This film was not quite as artsy and beautiful as Skyfall, and not quite the exciting action of Casino Royal, and not quite as bad as Quantum of Solace. Overall, I mean go see this movie if you have enjoyed the Bond films because it is still enjoyable, but don't go in thinking it will be an amazing movie. If this is Daniel Craigs last Bond film, It will be sad to see him end on a lower note of the 4 Bond films he has made. He still goes down as my favorite Bond though.
