The Monuments Men

"You can wipe out an entire generation, you can burn their homes to the ground and somehow they'll still find their way back. But if you destroy their history, you destroy their achievements and it's as if they never existed. That's what Hitler wants and that's exactly what we are fighting for."

George Clooney has done it again: he has provided us with a perfectly passable film that is neither excellent nor awful. He takes us on a journey through World War II Europe to try to find stolen French art and rescue it from Nazi destruction. The team assembled for this film includes Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, and Cate Blanchett. The film starts out feeling a bit like an Oceans film, as we see how each member is recruited to such a ragtag team, but quickly goes into the WWII aspect. The plot has a bit of trouble deciding if it wants to be serious or funny, and at what pace it wants to move, but that doesn't seem to affect my enjoyment much. The film provided laughs and tears, and a semi-accurate cultural look at WWII.
