The Lego Movie
/"I only work in black and sometimes very, very dark grey."
Filmology Rating: 3 out of 4
How much fun can possibly be had at a movie about LEGOs? I'll tell you: A LOT! I was extremely skeptical going into this movie, fully expected to be annoyed to no end by "Everything Is Awesome" and too many pop-culture-y cameos, but was pleasantly surprised that the song was absolutely perfect for the film and actually made me like it throughout the film and the characters seemingly pulled from LEGO obscurity were great to see! The plot was sophisticated for the adults, and paced quickly enough to keep the kids' attention. There is so much going on that I feel like I could see this ten times and still find new things with each viewing, and that, for once, actually made the movie better. As far as the voice acting is concerned, the casting is perfect and no one voice is too big for their role.

This is the new "Toy Story" or at least it tries to be.
No it doesn't have a great bromance or really any romance. No it doesn't have the amazing green aliens. No it does not have childhood favorite toys. It only has Legos.
What this movie does have is the imagination of childhood. To go back to the days where you could make anything just because you could. This film takes you back to the days where you could just make up a game at the playground and make up the rules as you went because no one cared. You had no one to judge you, only people that would be willing to join in. This film captures that imagination of childhood just like the Toy Story films did with Andy. Andy would make up adventures for Woody and Buzz that an adult would question but a child would look at with wonder.
The film is full of wonder.
The film has great animation, a good voice cast, and a story that in some regards everyone can relate to. While this weekend the theaters will be filled with kids, I recommend going to it. Especially this weekend. Be a kid again. Laugh like a kid. And imagine like a kid.
