Avengers Assemble: Thor: The Dark World
/“Thor, your bravery will not ease your pain. Your family, your world will be extinguished!”
Filmology Rating: 2.83 out of 4
Thor: The Dark World is directed by Alan Taylor and not Kenneth Branagh. In this sequel, Thor must forget about the schizophrenic plot and punch a dark elf from Skyrim while Natalie Portman takes a nap while acting. If you're not familiar with Alan Taylor, he did lots of of work on "Game of Thrones" on the first few seasons. Not sure if he's still a part of it because I'm only on season three. And this film really is like "Game of Thrones" but done better.
This film was so weird that I sort of liked it. It's certainly better than "Iron Man 2", but this film's issues are extensive.
The plotting is about an evil elf who wants Jane because she touched some statue that gave her fruit punch. The dark elf wants to conquer the universe so he needs that fruit punch. So that's how Natalie Portman is shoe-horned into the plot. And Thor needs to punch elf until elf no longer lives. It's really confusing, but this is a film that pretty much asks you to forget about the plot and have fun because it really is a generic plotting.
Now before you go and blame the writers, I will point out that the ones who wrote this film, also wrote "The Winter Soldier" and "Infinity War" as well as "Endgame." They're not bad writers, leave them alone.
But this does feel a lot like "Game of Thrones" but less talking, less grotesque nudity and more schlock. Which is what Thor 2 is.
The beginning is definitely the best part and throughout the film, the quality does decline as well as the entertainment. Everything on Earth is boring and needless. Just like Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings. Glad they were abandoned in "Thor: Ragnorak." Then near the end, when Loki dies, again, the film becomes all about defeating the elf man and that's it. That was all very boring that ended in a giant fight, but it was a creative battle that plays with portals and gravity which was a unique twist on a standard giant fight.
The Thor and Loki dynamic continues to be the highlight of these films and what's so great is that you never know what Loki is going to do. At one point he turns into Captain America and it was really fun.
This entire film is dumb schlock to where I enjoyed its absurdity.
