“There's Something Wrong With Miles.”

Filmology Rating: 2.5 out of 4

Miles is a strange little boy. Ever since birth, he has become stranger and stranger. He is really smart for his age and develops really quickly. What exactly is going on with him? It's a February horror film, that means love all around and murder.

To be honest, I was surprised at it wasn't terrible. What I absolutely hate is how critical some people are when it comes to the horror genre. When a typical action movie comes out, critics shake it off and say it's just another action film. But by God, if a horror film does not reinvent the genre and create a revolution in horror, it's a terrible movie. It happens all the time. I liked Hell Fest and The Possession of Hannah Grace last year, which critics all panned. And they panned this film too.

There isn't anything really wrong with the film that was too bothersome, however, the issues are minimal. The first twenty minutes are suspenseful and mysterious and the filmmaker is really moving the camera, which shows he cares. Then some exposition comes up and deflates the mystery a lot. At that moment, I predicted the rest of the film almost exactly. That led to some boring sequences and pacing issues with the occasional jump scare, but that's fine. The movie was just okay with a flatline ending.

The director and writer have not done much other than this and it seems like they're using this film as a stepping stone for bigger things and I am fine with that. They made a perfectly fine film that just sprinkled some paprika in the stir pot of the horror genre soup. The director has a bright future ahead.
