The Mummy (2017)

"Welcome to a new world of gods and monsters."

Filmology Rating: 1.75 out of 4

Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) is a soldier of fortune who plunders ancient sites for timeless artifacts and sells them to the highest bidder. When Nick and his partner (Jake Johnson) accidentally unearth Ahmanet, a betrayed Egyptian princess with extreme power, Morton must now stop the resurrected monster before she unleashes hell on Earth.

I will see anything with Tom Cruise in it. Say what you want about his religious beliefs or personal lives but the guy can act. He has been on...e of the best action stars throughout the last 20 years. Sadly, this was not one of his best. This would be down there on the list….

Even though this movie was not that good, Tom Cruise gives 110% to this film through his physicality, his presence, and his attitude. It felt like he was really the only one that REALLY wanted to be there. Every other performance, other than Jake Johnson, felt very dry and lifelike like the mummy they were fighting.

Speaking of the mummy, she was a joke along with her little mummy minions. Blah…. A dull backstory at best with no motivation as to why she wanted to do anything she was doing. The plot and writing felt like something rushed together like a scared college student trying to meet a deadline. Scattered here and there without real connection or flow to bring it all together, the script definitely needed another run through.

On one positive note other than Tom Cruise, there was a really intense plane crash sequence! (insert faint heart cheer here….)

Short and sweet review, sadly the movie didn’t match short and sweet. Really there are so many other good movies to see out right now that “The Mummy” is a definite skip.
