Pitch Perfect 3

Filmology Rating: 1.75 out of 4
The Bella’s are back together! Outside of college, life hasn't gone exactly as they would have thought but when they get the opportunity to sing together once again, they jump at the opportunity. The question is, do they still have it?
Pitch Perfect is without a doubt on my list of the films that I have seen the most. There is just something about it that I absolutely love. Maybe it’s the great humor and the countless quotable lines or maybe it’s the gorgeous women and their great voices. Whatever the reason is, I can’t get enough. It broke my poor little heart when Pitch Perfect 2 didn’t live up to the original. So when I heard of a third Pitch Perfect film, I was both excited and nervous. Let’s get down to it, how was Pitch Perfect 3?
This review has me torn. A part of me actually had a really fun time but the critic in me wants to escape and let loose on this film. What to do what to do…. Alright, let’s break this film into two short reviews.
Critic: This film was all over the place. They wanted to end on a high-note but instead it was off-key and fell flat. The film never found its rhythm and achieved the tone it desired until the very end. The plot was so thin you can see through it in an instance. For some reason, they left the formula that worked so well for the first and instead went down the road of action and over the top sequences. There were so many missed notes and key changes that even I couldn’t really keep up with them. Pitch Perfect 3 was in need of some serious auto-tuning in order to regain the true sound of the original.
Average Man: Even though this film was a mess, it was a mess that I enjoyed. I had a really fun time and I laughed my ass off. I will not say that this was a good movie by any means but it was fun, I’ll give it that. While viewing, I couldn’t help but notice all the blunders, mishaps, and qualities that NEEDED to be changed and yet, I still was having fun. The humor just enough to keep me entertained and the ending was just heartfelt enough to move me and reminisce about the Pitch Perfect franchise coming to an end. This will for sure be a guilty pleasure of mine for years to come.
If you are a fan of the franchise, then I’m sure you will be seeing this at some point. The best advice I can give is go in with an open mind. This is a movie that wants the audience to laugh and enjoy the music and its characters, not engage in analysis. If you keep this in mind, then you will laugh and have a good time.
Overall this was a step up from the second but was nowhere close to the success of the original.
