Morgan
/"Don't Let It Out."
Filmology Rating: 2.25 out of 4
The world we live in is full of possibilities, from our individual lives to the broader communities we are parts of. One such community with endless possibilities is the scientific community. There are advances in all aspects of science every day, some completely unfathomable even five years ago. While Morgan shows one of these possibilities, it is one we have not yet figured out: how to create artificial humans that are superiorly intelligent and that mature quicker than we do. Morgan’s trailers promised a hyper-intelligent, immature being that escapes her researchers with the potential to wreak havoc on the outside world. The actuality of the film is a bit disappointing, as the super-human powers don’t elevate to much and the suspense is dull.
The thing I was most anticipating was the performance from Anya Taylor-Joy, as Morgan, after seeing her earlier this year as Thomasin in The Witch. I was also looking forward to the performances from Kate Mara, Toby Jones, paul Giamatti, and Rose Leslie, but was sorely disappointed. No one, however, gave very compelling performances and I left feeling let down by all involved.
Everything was lackluster here, the performances, the writing, the cinematography, the score, the suspense. Possibility was the name of the game here, and Morgan lost as soon as she started.
