Bloodshot

Filmology Rating: 2 out of 4
Bloodshot is the latest 'XXX' film starring Vin Diesel who is either mumbling or yelling and never in between.
In a dystopic and crime-ridden Detroit, a terminally wounded man returns to the force as a powerful cyborg haunted by submerged memories. Now known to the public as Robocop, he seeks revenge on the people who are responsible for his tragic present.
It's 'Robocop.' This film is just a watered-down, less intelligent, and another forgettable attempt at doing 'Robocop.' It's very obvious that Sony is using the Bloodshot intellectual property to cash-in, not just because of the 'Robocop' structure, but because of Vin Diesel. If Sony was actually serious about making a quality 'Bloodshot' film, Vin Diesel would not be in this film. However, Sony knows that Vin Diesel has the key to the international market, but that all blew up in Sony's face because of the global pandemic.
It's okay to lift ideas from other movies as long as said film builds upon that idea with something new. However, 'Bloodshot' offers nothing innovative or new.
As a standalone film, completely dissociated with 'Robocop', it's the usual generic, punchy-smashy movie where all conflict is solved with zero wit or intelligence, but rather by brute force.
It's difficult to not compare 'Bloodshot' to 'Robocop', but they're so similar that it's the perfect opportunity to contrast the two films. In 'Robocop', the character of Robocop has forgotten his past life, but he also has physical and emotional barriers to overcome. 'Robocop' also has charm, wit, satire, style, and fun. 'Bloodshot' just has an indestructible man who can't be killed who shows zero internal conflict. This film is more concerned with lighting a room up with flares for no reason so that Vin Diesel can punch things in slow motion so that it can featured in the trailer.
Even in the majority of 'X-Men' films, Logan is always in constant pain physically and emotionally and you can tell how weathered and tortured he is. Vin Diesel just looks like he had a break in between filming 'The Fast and Furious' movies so he took a quick paycheck to further inflate his own ego.
At a point, the film felt like a video game where all of the enemies are set to the easiest setting and you sit and watch Vin Diesel be a perfect character who never gets beaten down. Those kind of characters are not interesting because they have nothing to overcome. They can do anything because some magic nanobots allow them to. 'Bloodshot' is just beat-for-beat 'Robocop' minus all the charm, wit, fun, satire, intelligence, and nuisance.
