Filmology Rating: 2 out of 4

Oh wait… another movie came out the same day as Star Wars?!? After record setting numbers for opening weekend, this movie was not on the menu for very many people. That is not a bad thing because this movie in my opinion, fell short of the expectations that I had for this film. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have always had a great chemistry so I was excited to see how they would blend together in this film. These two are sisters that find out that their parents are going to sell their childhood home and they are none too happy about this. While cleaning out their rooms, they decided to throw one last party at the house and have a high school reunion and live it up like teenagers again. Things start to go downhill very fast. The start of this movie was actually very awkward and almost uncomfortable to watch. They introduce you to Tina and Amy as these characters as either being a very pushy and controlling or very negligent, irresponsible, and excessively vulgar. Also, I don't think I have every come across so much forced humor in the opening few scenes of a movie. So right of the bat, this movie really didn’t have me caring about the sisters and their wellbeing. From then on, this movie was playing catchup with me and trying to win my approval. In the films defense, it did get slightly better. There were some funny parts of this movie but they were covered and suffocated with forced humor and annoying side characters. I wanted to like the sisters but I just never felt like I cared what happened to them or the house. I kept getting frustrated with the writing and all the really poor humor they forced on people. Tina and Amy naturally have a great chemistry so this wasn’t needed! They are a funny pair and their comedy is more natural in the sense that they just bounce laughs and jokes off one another and there weren’t many cases of that this movie. Then towards the end when the big emotional reveal happens, I really felt nothing. Never felt connected to the characters so I just didn’t really care too much when they wanted you to. Overall, this would be a hard pass for me in theaters. Just go see Star Wars again or wait for the awesome movies coming out at the end of this week.
