"Conner's music may not be what I listen to in my free time, but it seems to make so many people money."

Childhood friends Conner (Andy Samberg), Owen (Jorma Taccone) and Lawrence (Akiva Schaffer) made it big after creating a hip-hop group called the Style Boyz. However, Owen and Lawrence was always in the shadow of frontman Conner. The group breaks up and launches a successful solo career. When his second album is a complete disaster, a documentary group that had been following Conner around catches his downfall on film.
A Lonely Island movie! I have been a huge fan of this group for a long time and have really been looking forward to this movie (wow Déjà vu back to the Key and Peele review….) I have to say that I really did enjoy seeing this. Yes I know that I might have been a little biased but I tried to take a step back and judge it like judge ever other movie. This movie was not only hilarious, but it had great writing, some great characters, great chemistry and a very overarching theme that is very relevant in today’s world. Since these guys have been a group for so long, they have built a chemistry that is really noticeable and really fun to watch as well.
For those of you that don’t know, Lonely Island is a YouTube channel that has made tons of really funny music videos that are either about stupid and dumb topics or satirical works to mock modern day culture. Well this satirical aspect was the overarching theme throughout the movie. Conner's career had been off to a great start and the fame was starting to get to his head. Egos get inflated and he starts to think that he can write songs about whatever he wants and get away with it. As long as the beat is good, the lyrics and message of the music doesn’t matter. This is very relevant in the world we live in. People are too worried about how a song sounds that what the song means. Believe me, I am at fault of this as well! Every now and then you just need a little something more. Along with the music, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping takes jabs at celebs for all the elaborate and reckless things that they have done (most noticeable would be comparing things that Justin Bieber has done in the past). So for me, I love it when movies takes jabs at modern day culture and this movie did it in a really funny and accurate way.
Now some of the jokes might have missed a little bit but by the time that that one joke that didn’t work settled in, 3 more already came up. The flaws are there but are stifled by the rest of the side splitting humor. I was burst out laughing during the movie along with the rest of the audience. If you don’t get offended easily and like to laugh, then this movie is definitely a must see.
