"I want your eyes, man, I want those things you see through."

Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) have reached the point where it’s time to meet the parents so she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with the folks. At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship but things might be more messed up than he could have imagined.
It’s been a week since I’ve seen this movie so I'm sorry it’s taken me so long to write! I'm glad it has taken me a while to write because the more I think about this movie, the more awesome that it becomes. I loved this movie walking out of the theater but I love it even more. There was so much thought and attention to every little detail that all come together to make this movie truly special.
Let’s start with the films writer and director Jordan Peele. For those of you who are unaware of his work, he was part of the hilarious comedic duo on Comedy Central called “Key and Peele”. Together, he and Keegan-Michael Key had their own segment for years and was Comedy Centrals highest viewed segment on YouTube and highest rated as well. On top of that, they also wrote and also stared in last year’s hit “Keanu”. These two have been making me laugh for years. What make their skits so great are their social commentaries within the skit. A lot of their skits are social satires with a funny spin. This is what “Get Out” felt like. Comedy and horror really aren’t that different from one another. Yes they are on opposite sides of the spectrum, one being joy and one being terror, but they are both natural and instinctive. You don't have to think about laughing or being scared, it happens naturally. This is what makes Jordan Peele and this movie so special.
Jordan Peele makes a peoples horror movie. You know that feeling of wanting to yell at the screen and tell the characters what to do? Peele beats you to it and already wrote smart characters that react to situations like a normal person! It was so refreshing to see actually realistic characters and how they process the information and events around them. Is this really a crazy event or am I just interpreting it wrong? This is how an actual person would process something and it was really great to see that happen.
So being a horror movie, this movie did offer some scary moments. There are a few cliché jump scares in there but the majority of this film, I would describe as a thriller. It is more tense that actually scary. Uncomfortable is probably the best word to sum up the movie. To summarize “Get Out” in a sentence, it would be an uncomfortable thrilling dark humor social commentary satire. Peele was able to blend multiple genres so well. He added comedic relief when it was necessary, he added some horror to keep you on your toes, and once the movie gets going, he never lays off the tension.
I could go on and on about what I loved about this movie but ill cut it short because you guys get the point that I loved this movie. Minus the few cliché jump scares, this movie was a whole new twist on the horror/thriller genre. Jordan Peele is extremely talented and he says he has a lot more ideas like this one that he wants to pursue…. I can’t wait! “Get Out” is a must see!
