"Say Goodbye to Innocence"
Filmology Rating: 1.25 out of 4
While I know this is a remake of the 80s film (which I have yet to see) I kept thinking Footloose. The overprotective father who has lost a child and lost connection with his family cause he keeps trying to save the memories of his child. While that might be a lot of films, it just kept pounding into my head during this film. I just kept waiting for Bruce Greenwood to outlaw dancing.
Anyway the movie itself isn't awful but it isn't good either. It just is. It wants to pull at your heartstrings but I don't care for the over dramatic love stories. I love the "Blue Valentine"s and "When Harry Met Sally"s that bring a sense of realism to the romance. Jade Butterfield has fallen head over heels for David. The movie foreshadows that they will fall out of love and it will be painful but why not show that? Why give them the Bella and Edward romance? You can do whatever you want in life and you will always get what you want. Life never works that way. You have consequences for your actions and these romance films are brainwashing these teens into thinking that all of this crap is alright to do.
I also question Bruce Greenwood's actions during the third act. You clearly don't like David why not just leave him. You could make up a story and be in the clear. The character did something that his character would never do.

Another pointless '80s remake to come out in February. "Endless Love" features Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde as two kids in their first summer after graduation and the love that develops. There is, as always, a big secret, an overprotective father, and a confrontation scene. The acting is atrocious, the plot is basic, and the pacing is slow. I wanted this to be over after the first 15 minutes or so, as I knew what was going to happen. To make matters worse, the movie has two endings. The film could have ended with a small cliffhanger, but then decided to keep going and add another conflict that did nothing for the film's characters or the plot.
