If you get offended easily, then this movie is definitely not the movie for you to go see. This movie probably hits every sensitive topic and joke out there so be prepared if you see it. Now sometimes this works for the movie and sometimes it doesn’t. This movie is very funny at times! I was laughing hysterically at some of the jokes and situations throughout the movie but then at other times, the humor felt very forced and not needed. Sometimes it felt like they were afraid to not have a joke or something every 20 seconds so they quickly wrote in a few more jokes to fill the more slow scenes. If they would have gotten rid of all of those filler jokes and just let the movie take its course, it could have been a lot better. Zac Efron and Robert De Niro are surprisingly funny together. They seemed to have a pretty good comedic chemistry between them. De Niro is also at a level that we have never seen him before. Meaning, that he has never been this rude, crude, and dirty before and this has a lot of people not liking his role. Granted that this is far from his Oscar winning self, he is at the stage in his career where he has nothing else to prove and is now doing roles that he has never done before and would like to. I see this movie as him just letting loose doing a movie for himself and just having fun. If there is one area that this film actually did do a great job in, it would be the relationship between the grandpa and grandson. I was able to buy into the motives behind why De Niro, the grandpa, was doing what he was doing. Behind all the rude, crude, and dirty humor in this film, was a subtle sense of genuine emotion. All in all and to be honest, this is not a very good movie. I mean that in a sense that there are a lot of things that I would not have put in this movie. Some characters in this movie were extremely annoying that should have either been rewritten or cut all together. There were moments were you think that never would that ever happen. So this movie is so farfetched and sometimes very poorly made that I can’t in good mind call this a “good movie”. Dirty Grandpa would have to fall under the category of a dirty pleasure for me. When you know a movie really isn’t that good but you like it anyway. That was my reaction to this film but I can more than see why people don't really like this movie.
