"Eat my dust Dusty!"
Filmology Rating: 2.25 out of 4
Daddy’s Home brings Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg together again. Will has moved from being the step father that his wife’s kids hate, to becoming a father figure that they have come to love. He couldn’t be happier…. That is until the kid’s real father comes back into the picture. Ferrell and Wahlberg are complete polar opposites and both are trying to out-do each other and win the approval of the kids. These two guys have an excellent chemistry together and I feel like that’s what saved this movie. They weren’t quite as good as they were for the movie the Other Guys but I feel like that’s because that movie just had a lot more depth and direction that they could go in. These two just have a natural chemistry and bounce subtle jokes off each other. Daddy’s Home isn’t a side splitting comedy, but there are quite a few good laughs throughout. I feel that the biggest flaw in this movie is that neither father is really one that you completely root for and that’s because they don't really connect with the audience. Will is this sheepish and weak male figure while Mark is this absentee father that seems to think he can just jump right back in with the family. Neither were very likeable and I think that lost some points for people. Overall, Daddy’s Home was an enjoyable comedy even though it’s not one of Ferrells best. Ferrell and Wahlberg save the movie and hopefully they come together to make an Other Guys 2 soon!
