Filmology Rating: 2.5 out of 4

Calvin Joyner (Kevin Hart) was the most popular and gifted student in high school while Bob Stone (Dwayne Johnson) was a very overweight and bullied student. Joyner was the only student that helped Bob in his time of need and Bob never forgot it. Years later, Bob Stone is now a CIA agent who needs Calvin’s help (he is now an accountant) to save compromised U.S. spy satellite systems. However, due to some double crossing and some confusion, Calvin doesn’t know what to believe and is soon thrown into a much more complicated situation than he agreed on.

I really didn’t have too much drive to go see this movie to be honest. I really do like Kevin Hart as a comedian; I think that he is one of the best out there and is just so naturally funny. Also I am a fan of Dwayne Johnson because I feel like he really does do some good work. Pairing these two together I thought was going to be the best part of the film and that’s exactly what happened. These two men are so different from one another that it did make for some funny moments. They had a great chemistry together and it worked well. So this aspect was easily the best part of the movie.

However, other than the chemistry between Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, the movie just felt ehhh to me. I left the movie theater neither glad nor disappointed that I saw the movie. I was never moved in a certain way or anything of the sort. Like I said I did like Kevin and Dwayne but for me, they weren't enough to really make me LIKE the movie. The action was ok, the plot was ok, and the mystery was ok. I just never felt truly invested with Central Intelligence. This wasn’t supposed to be a big action blockbuster or anything so that was kind of expected. This was going for more of a buddy cop feeling to it. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber who directed Dodgeball and We Are the Millers, I was expecting it to be really funny since I really do love both of those films. However I just don't think it delivered on quite as much laughs as people were expecting which was a slight disappointment.

With a film that was left open ended to the possibilities of more sequels, I hope that the next one will focus a little more on a well-rounded and engaging story. The chemistry between the two leads is already there so focus less on that and focus more on an attention grabber to really make us care where the story is going. Overall this film falls right in the middle of being a hit or miss.
